My TAPPI Story: Rory Wolf
TAPPISAFE
An analytical method is presented for the determination of a wide range of chlorophenolics in pulp null effluents and marine sediments. Capillary GC/MS with an extensive series of isotopically labelled surrogates is employed for the quantification of individual chlorophenols, chlorocatechols, chloroguaiacols, chlorosyringols, chlorosyringaldehydes and chlorovanillins. The procedure has been designed to accommodate chlorophenolics of widely different volatility and stability and is applicable for mono to full ring chlorinated species. Three quantification schemes, based on three different groups of surrogates, are evaluated. Performance data from the analysis of three matrices are discussed and compared with GC/ECD results for the same samples.
