How to Make Your Facility 'PRRR', 1994 Environmental Conference Proceedings
William R. Heatley, Jr., Charles A. Hess
The successful start-up of Willamette’s greenfield facility in Bennetsville, S.C. was due to several factors. Probably the most important factor common among all departments was a commitment to “Do the Right Thing”. This was especially true in regard to the Marlboro Mill’s Waste Minimization Program. This program was successful due to the commitment of management and the involvement of all employees.
The Marlboro Mill’s Waste Minimization Program will be discussed in this paper. Examples will be provided of how Willamette increased their operational efficiency through the “PRRR” method: Prevention, Reduction, Recycle, and Reuse. This program addresses solid and hazardous wastes. Of particular interest will be the land application program for the lime byproducts that are generated on site that will lead Willamette into the 21st century.
