Regulations for effluent in Japan, waste water treatment systems adopted in Japanese pulp and paper industries and resulted effluent quality are reported mainly based on mill survey (1) performed in 1992 by JAPAN TAPPI together with similar survey of 1981, considering an increase of paper production in Japan for these 11 years.

Discussion and today’s situation related to dioxins and AOX in Japan are also reported.
