Full-Scale Comparison of Ceramic Disc and Flexible Membrane Tube Diffusers, 1994 Environmental Conference Proceedings

An 18-month study of ceramic disc and membrane tube diffusers was conducted in full-scale aeration basins at the Green Bay (Wisconsin) Metropolitan Sewerage District’s wastewater treatment plant. The two diffuser types were selected because their oxygen transfer efficiencies were similar, but the effects of fouling were potentially different.

The plant, which has a significant contribution of pulp/paper mill wastewaters, was looking to improve the oxygen transfer efficiency in the activated sludge system thereby reducing their electrical energy costs.
