While the use of membrane technology for the treat-ment of the pulp and paper mill effluent has been studied extensively for the past two decades, there have been no successful membrane systems of any size until very re-cently. This paper discusses two new membrane systems (3,000 and 10,000 cubic meters per day) installed using spiral wound nanofiltration membrane modules to process pulp and paper mill effluent for reuse.
