In a recent article in an industrial trade journal, the author stated "Even with the re-engineering of companies and the cost-cutting efforts that are prevalent, U.S. Industry is forecasting an increase in training dollars for the future." One of these companies that the author was talking about was undoubtedly MacMillan Bloedel Packaging, Incorporated (MacMillan Bloedel). Since 1991, when Corporate Executives made the commitment to Environmental Awareness and Enhancement Training for all of the employees at the Pine Hill Complex, they have made good that commitment and spent approximately $325,000 on training. The multiyear program has encompassed Corporate Policy Statement video development, logos, printed notebook materials, billboards, lectures, quizzes, regulatory compliance inspection role playing activities, general sessions, process area sessions and job-specific sessions. When concluded in 1995, this program will have been a solid investment in the future of MacMillan Bloedel, its employees, and our vital natural resources. MacMillan Bloedel views Environmental Awareness as a commodity of the Nineties that will pay dividends now and in the future.
