Enocell’s bleached kraft pulp mill in Finland started up in November 1992. It utilizes modem process and effluent treatment technology. The toxicity of effluents, before and after biological and ecological waste water treatment, has been tested with several common used toxicity tests methods, In addition, bioassays have been carried out in the receiving river. Toxic effects were observed in the raw effluent from the bleaching but no measurable toxicity remained after treatment.
