Promoting industrial growth, energy efficiency, and international competitiveness while preserving the environment are the goals of a major new research initiative between the American Forest & Paper Association and the Department of Energy. The initiative, Agenda 2020, is a technology roadmap developed by the forest, wood and paper industry to address ongoing manufacturing and environmental challenges confronting the industry and its customers. Agenda 2020 is a major step toward sustainability, designed to ensure that the industry focuses critical research and development efforts strategically toward positioning this critical industry to excel in the 2lst century. What makes this effort unique is that the forest and paper industry is unified behind one strategic technology plan.
