Pollution Prevention Partnership Pays Big Dividends, 1996 Environmental Conference Proceedings
A unique partnership between Wisconsin papermakers and the state’s Department of Natural Resources is resulting in reduced environmental releases, a much more cooperative way of doing business together, and an improved image for the paper industry. The “Pollution Prevention Partnership” (P3). is a voluntary, cooperative program designed to reduce the release of substances that could have an adverse impact on the environment. This innovative program includes air emissions, wastewater discharges, solid and hazardous wastes. From 1987-1994, the paper industry’s combined air and wastewater releases dropped 30.3 percent on a ton of production basis. Wisconsin’s papermakers recognize that environmental stewardship is an on-going responsibility and are committed to making further reductions in the years ahead. P3 was initiated by -- and is coordinated by the Wisconsin Paper Council, the industry’s trade association. P3 represents a new -- and better way of doing business between the private and public sectors.
