A full scale commercial process for the recycle of bleach plant filtrate has been committed to by Champion International Corporation at its 1440 ton/day kraft mill in Canton, N.C. Non-process elements from the wood and from purchased chemicals will increase in concentration as filtrate is recycled and their concentration must be controlled by selective removal. The chloride and potassium removal system was started up prior to the actual recycle of bleach plant filtrate into the recovery boiler system in order to test and optimize this system. The successful start up and operation of the Chloride Removal Process is discussed here along with the preparation prior to start up and future considerations.
