Debating and Defining Sustainable Foestry, 1996 Environmental Conference Proceedings
International interest in the topic of sustainable resource management continues to increase. Sustainable forestry appears to be of particular interest to the forest products industry, customers, government, and a variety of non-governmental organizations. This interest to has lead to corresponding efforts to help define practices indicative of sustainable forestry in a number of different forums. The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) is moving forward with their newly-developed “Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)” to help define the issue and move forward with an active program of accomplishment of sustainable forestry practices. Georgia-Pacific Corporation has proactively developed and is now implementing their commitment to sustainable forestry through the “Eleven Point Forest Resources Environmental Strategy.”
