A new NCG incineration system has been installed and started at Mead Coated Board’s Mahrt, Alabama mill. The system is designed to handle the mill’s NCG streams (LVHC and HVLC) and foul condensate stripper offgas. The forced draft is designed to fire either turpentine or natural gas. The furnace exhaust is quenched directly in the base of the packed bed SO2 scrubber. A high efficiency eliminator removes the SO3 aerosol resulting from TRS combustion. This paper describes design, installation and operating problems and solutions.
