Modern Pulp Bleaching and the Aqueous Environment, 1997 Environmental Conference Proceedings

UPM-Kymmene Corporation has in recent years participated in several environmental studies concerning the environmental effects of various bleaching effluents. The objective of these studies has been to analyze with different bioassay methods the relative toxicity of modern ECF and TCF effluents in order to provide decision makers with information con-cerning the ecological impact of these two bleaching processes. The re-sults obtained indicate that there are no great differences in the ecologi-cal impacts of well treated modern ECF and TCF mill effluents.
