Development of a Chemical Rating System to Prioritize Chemicals for Hazard Assessment and Risk Management, 1997 Environmental Conference Proceedings

A system was developed to prioritize a large number of materials based on overall potential hazard. A pre-screening technique was used to quickly identify higher priority materials, and thereby focus subsequent data collection. The Rating/Ranking System developed an approach to determining the site-specific rating criteria. Data uncertainties due to missing information were also addressed. The system is also demonstrated for use on evaluating new materials used on-site to determine if pre-startup hazard assessment and risk management is warranted.
