Wet Scrubber for TRS Control from a Brown Stock Washer, 1997 Environmental Conference Proceedings
The JSC Fernandina Beach Mill is a fully integrated kraft linerboard mill. The mill produces approximately 2545 metric tons of linerboard daily on three paper machines. All three are ISO 9002 certified. The linerboard is then sold to customers for converting into corrugated containers.
In 1992, a new brown stock washer, known as the “C Line” washer was added to process pulp from the existing batch digester system. The new washer system consists of a rotary drum vacuum washer, diffusion washer and two filtrate tanks. The off-gases from the rotary drum vacuum washer and the two filtrate tanks are high volume low concentration gas streams. As an alternative to incineration, the TRS emissions from these sources are collected and controlled by a wet scrubber utilizing a sodium hypochlorite scrubbing solution. The scrubbing system reduces the TRS emissions to less than 5 ppm, dry basis meeting the emission limitation required by federal New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for Kraft Pulp Mills.
