Pulp Mill TRS/VOC/HAPs Reductions (HVLC NCGs) Using Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) Technology, 1997 Environmental Conference Proceedings
Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) technology has been successfully applied for the first time on a commercial scale for control of total reduced sulfur (TRS) and VOC/HAPs -containing non condensible gas (NCG) emissions from high volume low concentration (HVLC) sources at a U.S. pulp mill. RTO technology in this application provides high emission control efficiencies, while minimizing operating costs due to inherently high thermal efficiencies for the RTO, and operation in mostly a “flameless oxidation” mode. Design concepts are reviewed for the RTO and SO, scrubber system. Operational and emissions performance data are presented since system startup in early 1996.
