My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
This paper tracks the basis of Louisiana Pacific’s (L-P’s) decision to pursue a Project XL agreement. The mill has consistently and successfully pioneered environmental advances in its production of bleached kraft pulp. As a result of this pioneering effort, along with concurrent environmental regulatory developments in the papermaking industry, L-P has chosen to pursue an innovative environmental agreement under Project XL. This paper focuses on the following aspects of L-P’s project: l Summary of the Project XL program l Completed and pending environmental improvements at the Samoa mill l Benefits to be achieved by LP through Project XL participation l Project XL Final Project Agreement (FPA) strategy While L-P’s environmental and facility history is unique, the strategy adopted by L-P, as outlined in this paper, can be applied to others interested in the pursuing a similar Project XL agreement.
