Summary of Pulp and Paper Mil Experiences with Toxicity Reduction and Toxicity Identification Evalutaions (TRE/TIE), 1998 Environmental Conference Proceedings

NCASI is investigating the application of EPA’s guidance documents for conducting toxicity reduction evaluations and toxicity identification evaluations (TRE/TIE) to pulp and paper mill matrices. The goal of the project is to examine approaches for tailoring toxicity reduction evaluations to meet the needs of the pulp and paper industry. As part of this effort, mill experiences with TRE/TIEs over the past ten years were compiled and summarized. Each case summary includes information regarding the bioassay issues at the facility, the toxicity reduction approach used, pertinent results of the TRE/TIE, and recommendations or remedial actions taken.
