Changing Perceptions of the Paper industry at the Grade School Level, 1998 Environmental Conference Proceedings

Wisconsin Paper Council
Attitudes and opinions about the pulp and paper industry are learned at a very young age. Consequently, a need exists for educational programs on the paper industry at the elementary school level. The Wisconsin Paper Council created a school relations program called Paper Makes Wisconsin Great that has been used in fourth-grade classrooms for 18 years. The Paper Council is reworking this popular program, creating a new video series covering the following topics: how pulp and paper is manufactured; the socio-economic impact of papermaking in Wisconsin; environmental protection commitment and achievements; and the role and uses of paper in society. Thomas H. Schmidt, president, Wisconsin Paper Council, discusses how Paper Makes Wisconsin Great has worked in Wisconsin, and how a similar program can work for you.
