The Canadian Pulp and Paper Industry has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to improve its environmental performance. Unfortunately, the positive results of these expenditures have often not been recognized, nor understood, by the public. This paper describes the Elk Falls Mill’s response to this problem. The mill has developed an Environmental Science Show to help explain, to a varied audience, how technology is used to minimize its’ environmental effects. The show incorporates working models, static displays, and computer simulations to demonstrate the principles of environmental science. The philosophy and practical aspects of the show are reviewed. Public response in various settings is discussed.
