The Best Management Program (BMP) regulation requires specific procedures and recordkeeping practices for pulp and paper mills. These elements include management commitment, training, preventive maintenance and inspections, containment and operations review, monitoring and spill investigation, modification review, and plan certification. Many of these ideas are incorporated in the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard. The elements of the BMP program are compared to the ISO 14001 standard requirements and to specific mill management systems at Simpson Tacoma Kraft.
