In response to market demands for credible and comprehensive environmental information on the environmental burdens associated with the life cycle of products, the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association and TerraChoice 1 Environmental Services Inc. developed an Environmental Profile Program for pulp and paper products. The concept of this program is to provide pulp and paper producing companies. Customers with pertinent environmental information that is based on a holistic consideration of the raw material acquisition and manufacturing stages of the product life cycle, and that incorporates additional tools such as risk assessment and environmental management systems. The program’s reporting mechanism, the Environmental Profile Data Sheet (EPDS) provides a standard, TM cost-effective, understandable and credible method of reporting environmental information that is based on sound science, life cycle considerations and third-party independent verification for information related to national and international issues and concerns.
