Evaluation of Groundwater Results from a Solid Waste Landfill, 1999 Environmental Conference Proceedings

W. Mark Bailey, P.G., Jennifer W. Edge--BE&K/Terranext working together with Southeast Paper performed a groundwater results evaluation for Southeast Paper’s solid waste disposal facility (SWDF) in Dublin, GA. The evaluation included preparation of a Microsofi-Excel (TM) -based data calculator for use in comparing groundwater results from the landfill with regulatory standards. The calculator utilized Time Series Plots for visual evaluation of groundwater results and a set of tables, which alert the user to concentrations, which exceed MCLs and other standards. The calculator automatically updates results when new data is entered into the spreadsheet database and provides instructions on what to do if a standard is exceeded. Also included in the evaluation was a statistical analysis of results using the EPA statistical software Groundwater Information Tracking System with Statistical Analysis Capability, Version 5.0, December 1994, (GRITS/STAT). The software is ideal for evaluating the same data with different statistical tests, which may be necessary due to site conditions and objectives of the evaluation.
