Low-No Incineration of Malodorous Gases in Kraft Pulping, 1999 Environmental Conference Proceedings
P. Björklund, A. Tamminen--High level of nitrogen oxides (NO,) has been detected in flue gases from incineration of malodorous gases (NCG) and stripper off gas (SOG). This NO, contributes with 11.. . 14 % to the mills total emissions of nitrogen oxides. The introduction of FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Analyzer) and other real-time analysis techniques have confirmed that the origin of the incinerator NO, is the nitrogen content, mainly in the form of ammonia, found in the SOG. There are several measures available for reduction of NO, from combustion processes, however, until now, none have been installed for Kraft Pulping NCG and SOG incineration. Techniques for reduction of NO, emissions has now been evaluated in two full scale installations. These installations include both staged air low-NO, incinerator (primary measure) and catalytic reduction of flue gas NO, (secondary measure).
