Millwide Waste Minimization Through Source Monitoring and Removal, 1999 Environmental Conference Proceedings

John M. Carr

Jefferson Smurfit Corporation

Waste minimization is a function of the materials that are brought onto the mill property for use in either the process or in the maintenance activities. The purpose of this paper is to give some avenues to the supervisors, the purchasing agents, and the storeroom to help them reduce the materials of concern that are in their areas. A plan for removing materials from the “shopping lists”, from the storeroom shelves, and finally from the individual lockers, toolboxes and shelves is a must. The development of plans, the implications throughout the mill, and the expected results are discussed here.
