As a result of continued commercialization of Low Temperature Oxidation (LTO) technology for NOx control, which employs ozone to oxidize NOx for removal in a wet scrubber, several applications have been demonstrated and successfully commissioned. Building on the early development efforts prior to 1998, the results from more recent demonstrations of the LTO technology have been applied to commercial installations by BOC as part of projects have been developed, either by BOC alone or in concert with engineering and equipment partners, such as Cannon Technologies Inc., Beaumont Environmental, and SFT, as described below. These applications include a 25 MW coal fired power boiler, a secondary metals furnace, a nitric acid-based pickling process, and a gas-fired industrial boiler. Process and performance characteristics from these LTO installations are reviewed, as are results from additional pilot plant work on other applications.
