Recent Environmental Improvements at the Espanola Mill, 2002 Environmental Conference Proceedings

There have been significant improvements made to the effluent quality in the last five years at Domtar's kraft pulp and paper mill in Espanola, Ontario. The 1000 ADMT/D mill, which is located on the banks of the Spanish River in Northern Ontario, has implemented ECF bleaching on both the hardwood and softwood lines, and utilizes ozone in the bleaching sequence on the hardwood side. In addition, the mill is extensive in plant spill containment systems as well as a very efficient secondary treatment system that allows the diversion of spill material.
