Computer Simulation of Minimum Impact Mills, 2003 Environmental Conference Proceedings

Computer modelling is ideally suited to simulate systematic closure of mill water circuits. Comparative scenario analysis, featuring At Source Reduction (ASR) or Treatment Kidneys, can predict quality changes and impacts on process waters and products and hence reduce risk. This paper describes the basic approach used and illustrates how computer simulations can be used to screen alternative technologies and become a powerful decision making tool. The approach is demonstrated in a case study on a large integrated Kraft mill.
