My TAPPI Story: Rory Wolf
TAPPISAFE
Linda H. Kim-Habermehl, Chuck Mallard, David Smith, Randy Kloes, Bernardus Van Rooden, Joann Surma, John Roper, Nathalie Hahn, David Wolfe, Hector Audette, Thomas Annen--The LWC market is becoming increasingly competitive due to cross competition from coated woodfree and value-added uncoated grades. The challenges associated with producing light weight coated (LWC) rotogravure papers can be described by three words - “more with less”. The challenge is to get more from the coating, when there is less of it, while also producing the paper faster, better, and more cost effectively. This paper discusses key aspects associated with the printability of LWC rotogravure papers such as the impact of latex as well as other coating components. Data showing the effect of coating parameters and finishing conditions on LWC rotogravure quality will be presented, along with a discussion of key performance criteria, roto coating trends, and relevant hot topics.
