Study of Dot Gain in Sheetfed Lithography as a Function of Paper Grade, 1990 International Printing & Graphic Arts Conference Proceedings

A project is described in which the authors studied the effect of paper grade on dot gain on press. Total dot gain, from plate to print, was measured on test prints where the only variable knowingly changed was the paper. Fourteen different papers ranging from 91 coated to 13 uncoated were printed using two different inks, cyan and magenta. The results indicate that within this range, paper grade per se has almost nothing to do with dot gain.
