A new method for quality control in multicolour newspaper printing is developed. The method is based on colour classification algorithms by means of colour image analysis and artificial neural networks. Data from measurements in arbitrary pictures, expressed in the RGB colour space of the camera, are transformed to the actual printing ink colour space and possible to use for direct adjustments of the ink feed. An experiment is described where the new method is compared with traditional densitometer measurements.
