Reactive Barrier Films, 2000 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

E. L. Cussler , Chungfang Yang--Films containing immobile reactive species can dramatically retard diffusing solutes like oxygen and water vapor. The theory for these films which is developed here shows that this retardation is not in the steady state permeability, but in the lag before the permeability first occurs. The results, which seem consistent with preliminary experiments, provide a rationale for building better barriers.
