Curl in Nylon Film, 2000 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

Michael D. Crist, Kim Do, Eric Noon--In the flexible packaging industry, nylon is increasingly used in multi-layer films. Nylon’s unique characteristics, such as high strength, puncture resistance, and oxygen, flavor and aroma barriers enhance its usefulness as barrier film or high abuse film. When nylon is co-extruded with other polymers, the film structure should be symmetrical to minimize curl. This paper discusses the phenomenon of curl and suggests ways to reduce curl in unbalanced structures.
