Air Gap Dynamics: Effect on Molecular Properties and Heat Seal, Part 2, 2000 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Jeff Nanstad, Ray Edwards--When extrusion coating a polyethylne, any changes made in air gap dynamics (melt temperature, air gap length, line speed) may change that polymer’s coating properties, e.g., heat seal strength. Such changes in coating properties are dependent upon the polymer’s molecular properties, including chain branching. And , one involved in extrusion coating must optimize his extrusion conditions, including air gap dynamics, to gain the best end use properties from a polyethylene.
