Thomas Todd, Gordon Craig--Today paper, foil and film production machines are being designed to operate for faster line speeds and/or wider web widths, with the goal of increased output capacity. One of the ways to accomplish this goal is through the use of composite web handling rollers in lieu of metal rollers traditionally used. Lower weight and inertia and higher stiffness are the chief advantages of advanced composite rollers in comparison to metal ones. This paper will elaborate on the technical advantages of composite rollers for web handling applications.
