John Perdikoulias, Jiri Vlcek, Ondrej Pokluda--This paper describes the benefits of a new Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software package that can be configured to simulate a complete extrusion line from hopper to winder. Through the use of an example, it is shown how simulation a can be used to predict the performance of new materials and structures in existing equipment which, can help reduce the number of physical trial runs that need to be performed during product development. The paper also describes how such as system can co-operate with a control system and ultimately be developed into an "Expert System".
