Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes are used for a variety of automotive applications, e.g., paint masking, waterproofing and as harness wraps. Each application has unique requirements, but the use of pressure sensitive adhesive tapes as harness wraps in the engine compartment presents the most challenging and demanding environment to the development scientist. We have developed a test protocol to evaluate the performance of a pressure sensitive adhesive tape in the engine compartment. This paper will describe the test protocol and present results for various pressure sensitive adhesive harness wraps.
