Waterborne Urethanes in Paper Coatings, 1990 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Although waterborne urethane technology is relatively new, the polymers have become commercially acceptable in a wide range of industries. Expanded use has resulted from specific technical advances in recent Years, not necessarily because of government pollution pressure. The inherent urethane properties of abrasion resistance, toughness, UV stability for aliphatic systems, pigmentability, adhesion to a wide variety of substrates as well as compatibility with other water-based products offers the formulator an excellent tool to obtain high performance properties to meet the demands of the marketplace. Recent years have seen a continued increase in sophistication of polymer design. The technology and requirements complexity is increasing at a faster rate and the 1990’s should see the introduction of even higher performance products obtained by new raw materials and urethane technology.
