When evaluating pressure sensitive adhesive systems, there is often a discrepancy between the observed test results obtained using standardized methods in a laboratory environment, and practical performance.

This paper offers explanations for the discrepancy, and proposes alternate tests which more closely resemble the end use, and which may also be used to study the performance characteristics of a given pressure sensitive adhesive system in greater detail.
