With real-time computer generated images of web printing becoming operational and with the availability of disciplined inspection techniques under computer control, it is now possible for pressmen to collect statistically valid data of print quality on roll-to-roll presses while the press is running at any speed.
Concurrent with data collection, printed rolls can be automatically flagged during rewinding to mark defect location.
From this data, real-time SPC control charts and roll reports can be prepared at press side. These statistical methods cut waste through early warnings of developing defects, assure more constant product quality, and enable more efficient downstream processing.
