Critical Ink/Press Performance Parameters in Flexo and Gravure, 1990 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

Critical ink parameters are reviewed that affect ink performance on flexographic and rotogravure presses. The paper analyzes conventional solvent-based ink systems and compares ink modifications required to run water-based inks at high press speeds. The critical ink/press parameters addressed are dynamic ink wetting, effect of temperature on ink wettability and drying, viscosity and ink transfer, ink, plate, cylinder surface tension, as well as ink cleanup.
