Surface Tension Behavior of Aqueous Blends, 1990 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
This paper discusses surface tension behavior of aqueous blends which is important in controlling the vetting of non-porous substrate by aqueous inks and coatings.
Various water/cosolvent blends were analyzed. The results indicate that surf ace tension of pure cosolvent is a poor indicator of how effective it will be in reducing the surface tension in aqueous blends.
Changes in surface tension of aqueous blends on evaporation were also studied. This was done by combining experimentally determined surf ace tension data with computer calculated blend composition during evaporation. Results relating humidity, ink viscosity, and aqueous blend chemistry to wettability and printability are discussed.
