During the coating of many water based pressure sensitive adhesives, it is difficult to obtain the combination of good substrate wetting with low foaming. In addition, additives that are used to alleviate these problems can also cause deficiencies in adhesive properties or increase water sensitivity. To this end new wetting/defoaming additives based on acetylenic diols have been developed. The use of these products is demonstrate versus conventional dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate/defoamer combinations, in both acrylic and styrene-butadiene based adhesives.
