Environmentally Conscious Hot Melt Adhesives, 1991 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
A unique class of graft copolymers of vinyl monomers overcome the deficiencies of conventional hot melts in the repulping of paper stocks. Unlike conventional hot melts, these graft copolymers disperse into fine particles in the high temperature, high shear, aqueous repulping process and become redeposited on the paper in a finely divided state.
The properties of the graft copolymers are discussed, as well as those of other water soluble or dispersible polymers used in hot melt adhesives. The versatility of the technology is emphasized by the development of prototypical hot melts for various end uses.
