Water-borne Laminating Adhesives, 1991 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

Acrylic type latex adhesives have been formulated for laminating metalized film to board for use in microwave packaging. This acrylic polymer has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for particle size distribution, conductometric titration for location of carboxyl groups within the particle, potentiometric titration to determine the distribution of the neutralizing base, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to determine glass transition temperature (Tg). This characterization shows that once latex particle size distribution and Tg are maintained, performance properties will be acceptable.
