Low VOC Inks Correlation of Two-Parameter Surface Energies to Printability on Plastic Film, 1992 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Waterbased inks, and low VOC inks in particular, often present printability problems which arise from high dynamic surface energies and related properties such as spreading coefficients. Two-parameter surface energies (dispersion and polar) have been determined for the inks and the substrates using static and dynamic contact angle measurements. Spreading coefficients have been calculated for inks on films using static and dynamic surface energy data. Higher spreading coefficient values correlated well with printability of the inks on film substrates.
