Potential Interactions Between Pressure Sensitive Adhesives and Silicone Release Coatings, 1993 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
J. D. Jones
In today’s pressure sensitive label and tape market we have a wider than ever range of silicone and adhesives chemistries. In an ideal situation, no chemical interaction would take place between adhesive chemistry and silicone release coating chemistry. In the real world, unfortunately, there are significant interactions between some classes of adhesives and some silicones. This paper will explore interactions of solvent based acrylics, water based acrylics, water based rubber, and hot melts with addition curing silicone, especially solventless silicone release coatings. Some rheological interactions will be addressed also. Some safeguards against these unwanted interactions will be proposed.
