Predicting the Performance of LLDPE Stretch/Cling Films, 1993 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

J. J. Wooster, S. P. Chum

A small scale testing procedure has been developed to evaluate films for their resistance to failure during high speed pallet wrapping. Several cast stretch/cling films have been evaluated by this method to determine their resistance to failure. The films were also evaluated on a power pre-stretch pallet wrapping machine to determine their stretch wrapping performance. The flaw resistance determined in small scale testing shows an excellent correlation with the stretch performance determined in pallet wrapping testing. The method for determining flaw resistance can therefore be used to predict the stretch performance when full scale stretch wrapping evaluations are not possible.
