New Developments in WVTR Testing for Barrier Packaging Materials, 1993 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Bradley J. Henry, Bert Johnson
Today’s modern barrier materials require better test methodology and better test equipment than in the past. A new Water Vapor Transmission Rate Instrument has been developed which makes testing good barriers easier and more precise than ever before. This method is already an ASTM standard, F 1249-90, and is under consideration by TAPPI to become a method. The latest design requires no salt solutions to achieve a 90% RH test condition and determines steady-state WVTR values quickly, precisely and with a minimum of operator attention. A built-in reference test cell assures continuous
calibration and improves throughput of data.
