Predicting Film Strength Properties of PCR/LLDPE Blends, 1993 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

Ayesha L. Simons, Vaseem Firdaus

This paper examines the effect of PCR resin addition to LLDPE film resins. Various PCR resins were dry blended at the 10 to 30 percent level with a high strength film commercial resin. Generally, the addition of the PCR resins resulted in a significant loss in film toughness. Using high strength film property correlations, we determined that the resultant loss in blend film properties can be fully explained by changes in crystallinity and MWD. Predictive models were developed to estimate final PCR/LLDPE blend properties based on only the blend density and I21.
